Spring festival makes a welcome return
The Belmont Spring Festival is back after more than 10 years and is shaping up to be a great family day out.
The festival is timed to make the most of the stunning springtime display of rhododendrons and azaleas in the Belmont Domain and has been organised by Hutt City Council and local community groups to encourage locals to get out and enjoy one of Hutt City’s great spaces.
Mayor David Ogden says “it’s great to see the Belmont Spring Festival back on the calendar.
“In the past, the festival has been an opportunity for the community to come together and have some fun and I’m sure, with this year’s diverse line-up, that tradition will begin again,” he says.
There will be emergency management and fire displays, chainsaw art and a drumming show. Exhibitions and stalls run by local community groups will be set up and there will be performances by school groups running throughout the day.
You might want to kick up your heels with a spot of line dancing or find a prime spot on the grass and listen to an accordion quintet while you devour a fruit kebab or steak sandwich – there’s sure to be something for everyone.
The Belmont Spring Festival runs from 11am to 3pm on Saturday 17 October at the Belmont Domain – just off SH2 north of the Kennedy-Good Bridge. Rain day for the festival is Saturday 31 October.
