Extra bus tours added to SeePort this weekend
In response to popular demand, Ports of Auckland is putting on two additional free bus tours of Auckland’s port this weekend.
The additional tours will run at 4.00pm this Saturday 17 October and Sunday 18 October – the last two days of the Port’s third annual SeePort event.
Ports of Auckland spokesperson Catherine Etheredge said the new tours were a response to unprecedented demand.
“Our six other tours over the weekend have all booked out. We want to give even more Aucklanders the opportunity to get behind the red fence and see their port in action,” she said.
The hour-long tours, aboard a double-decker bus, offer a top-notch view of the port’s cranes, straddle carriers and international ships.
As well as the new weekend tours, there are still some places available on bus tours on Thursday 15 and Friday 16 October.
Port exhibits, activities and entertainment for all ages is also on offer at Captain Cook Gate on Quay Street, opposite the Northern Steamship Co Brewbar, between 9.00am and 3.00pm.
“Highlights include free face painting and Ports of Auckland story teller, Sally Seabreeze,” said Ms Etheredge.
“Our powerful tug boats will also be out and about, putting on public displays.”
Dancing tug boat displays will be held on Saturday and Sunday 1.00pm off the end of Princes Wharf.
Bookings are essential for bus tours - to book, phone 0800 AK PORT (0800 25 7678). Photo ID is required upon boarding and children under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult with photo ID.
