Kapiti Coast Website Makes Art Trail Accessible
06 November 2009
Kāpiti Coast District Council’s
newly refurbished website is making a real contribution to
this weekend’s Arts Trail and shows how integrating a
number of technologies can really enhance the website and
Arts Trail experience, Mayor Jenny Rowan said
today.
“As one who agitated for a new website right
from the outset, I’m pleased the site has come on line at
the right time for the Arts Trail which has become an iconic
event for the Kāpiti Coast District over the past few
years.
“We have all the artists and galleries on the
Trail listed with address details and, thanks to a member of
the local community, an innovative Google Maps set up which
shows where each artist or gallery is and can readily
produce a print out map to make finding them
easier.
“We also have a fairly comprehensive gallery
of art works on the main Arts Trail web page. To view
enlarged versions just click on the artworks and then click
the back button to go back to the gallery.
“This
year’s Arts Trail is bigger and better than ever. We have
35% more artists and the brochure, which is available from
libraries, visitor centres and many of the galleries as
well, clear shows the kinds of art on sale and on
display,” Jenny Rowan said.
“I guess the only
drawback with having shows in artists’ homes and studios
is that access can be a problem to some of them and people
going on the Trail need to use the brochure to check on
which sites may be harder to access than
others.
“The Arts Trail is a great experience. I
encourage all Kāpiti Coasters and people from north and
south to come and have a look at this display of the broad
creative talent of the Kāpiti Coast.
“It looks like
the weather will be fine and it should be a great
weekend,” Jenny Rowand said.
