Jarvis Cocker At Wellington And Auckland
Solid Entertainment are thrilled to announce:
Jarvis Cocker will be playing Wellington Town Hall on Thursday December 3rd and Auckland Powerstation Friday December 4th.
These will be Jarvis’ first shows in New Zealand since Pulp visited ten years ago. The Phoenix Foundation are special guests on both nights. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ + Special Guests In a musical career spanning three decades Jarvis Cocker continues to be an idiosyncratic but absolutely perfect pop star.
Once the quintessential outsider he’s now one of the most recognised, cherished and charismatic artists in quality popular music today. Not to mention one of the most welcome!
In recent times Jarvis has established himself as a brilliant solo artist with the release of two classic albums that sit excellently astride Pulp’s back catalogue.
This includes one of the most stunning run of singles ever and possibly the greatest lit-pop song of all time – the anthemic and immaculately observed, ‘Common People’. Cocker’s debut Jarvis was greeted with open arms and his brand new album Further Complications has been hailed as his strongest work since the Mercury Award winning Different Class. The trademark wit, charisma and lyrical twist are all in perfect working order and his stature has grown even further through unfailingly brilliant and perfectly pitched performances.
Most famously ruling Cool Britannia as Pulp’s enigmatic lead singer and songwriter, Jarvis, alongside the Gallaghers and Damon Albarn was a centre stage player in the era defining days of Britpop.
Never afraid of courting controversy while shaping history Jarvis pulled the whole thing off with a style and wit that more self absorbed artists would happily claim as genius.
“If a lanky get like me can do it… so can you.” said Jarvis headlining Glastonbury 1995 in one of the greatest performances of all time while turning himself and his band into some of the biggest popstars on the planet. Nothing’s changed – Jarvis Cocker remains ahead of the rest and is a constant breath of fresh air. In recent times his creativity and versatility have lead to numerous side projects – writing and performance collaborations, soundtrack tunes, directing music videos, curating exhibitions including London’s Meltdown Festival, a stint in the band Relaxed Muscle, as well as lecturing, guest editing newspapers and radio shows and select TV appearances, including the BBC’s heavyweight political show Question Time.
Jarvis Cocker is a truly inspirational artist and with Further Complications being hailed as a revelatory new album you should grab tickets while you can! Reportedly his dance moves have never been better. “It’s a complicated boogie” Alright!
Very special guests at both shows are one of NZ’s finest, The Phoenix Foundation. Taking time out from new release preparations these one-off appearances will be their first major shows in some time.
