Christchurch’s fastest and funniest do battle
MEDIA RELEASE: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Christchurch’s fastest and funniest do battle at The Court Theatre
Four local high schools battle it out for the title of “Christchurch’s fastest and funniest” in the Theatresports in Schools Junior Finals this Sunday at The Court Theatre.
From the 18 schools entered, Cashmere High School, Burnside High School, St Andrew’s College, St Thomas of Canterbury College, Papanui High, Christchurch Girls’ High School and Marian College have made it to the final showdown for the Senior Theatresports Trophy. Emma Brittenden, The Court Theatre’s Education Manager, is looking forward to seeing these schools take the stage together. “Every show so far has been incredibly entertaining and these teams are the best of the best – it will be a phenomenal final”, Brittenden says.
Theatresports is competitive performance where teams of four performers create short scenes based on audience suggestions, combining acting skills with quick-thinking. The result is a uniquely entertaining theatrical experience. The three rounds of competition are judged by three Court Jesters, who mark teams’ entertainment value, narrative skills and technique.
Theatresports in Schools is a long-established cultural competition enjoying almost two decades in Christchurch and many of The Court Jesters (The Court Theatre’s improvisation troupe who perform Scared Scriptless every Friday and Saturday night) began their professional careers through the school competition. Brittenden encourages audiences to keep an eye out for the performers they see at the finals -“for many of them, this is only the beginning”.
