One can (of fish) makes a difference!

24 November 2009

This Saturday, if you’re out and about doing your grocery shopping, look out for Downtown Community Ministry volunteers collecting for the Foodbank.
Supplies are needed for Christmas food hampers and to fill the shelves for the busy period throughout the holidays.

Project Worker David Manuel says, “If everyone walking through the supermarket doors gave something this Saturday we’d have enough to assist the increasing number of people coming to us for food each week”.

Sadly, in their efforts to provide food and presents for whanau and friends over the holiday season, many food bank users borrow money and go into debt to do so.
This means the season of joy ends with many people further in debt and dependance.

David says, “The foodbank can help people manage the holidays and enjoy it. That’s why we’re collecting this weekend and asking shoppers to help us support others this Christmas”.

Right now the food bank needs cans of meat and vegetables, tinned fish, milk powder and spreads such as honey, jam and peanut butter.

DCM is collecting at three Wellington supermarkets, Newtown New World, Willis St Metro and Wellington City New World from 9am till 6pm.
Donations are gladly accepted throughout the week at the DCM offices in Lukes Lane. Please call 384 7699 for further information.
