Hutt City Council backs Smartlinx3 Ltd
Hutt City Council decided to increase its shareholding in broadband company Smartlinx3 Limited in a meeting last night.
The result is that Council will make application to subscribe for new shares in the company at a total cost of $90,000.
This is conditional on Upper Hutt and Porirua City councils and other shareholders also making subscriptions for new shares up to a determined amount.
Mayor David Ogden said the funding injection would put Smartlinx3 in a position to participate in the Government’s Ultrafast Broadband initiative.
He said Council would continue to support Smartlinx3 which was established to provide a fast, open-access broadband network for the Hutt Valley and Porirua.
Mayor Ogden noted that ratepayers had saved several hundred thousand dollars through Council using Smartlinx3’s services.
