ANZAC Centenary Bridge
Group Releases Business Case, Launches Website
The
ANZAC Centenary Bridge Group has released a pre-feasibility
study providing costings and technical details to support
its case for a new bridge for Auckland’s Waitemata
Harbour. The study is posted on the Group’s website, also
newly launched, at: www.bridge2015.org.nz.
“We’re thrilled at the debate that’s already taking place around the next harbour crossing”, said Group spokesman Richard Simpson. “To help encourage that debate, we want to ensure that there’s as much accurate and reliable information in the public domain as possible.”
The study’s findings were based on advice from the engineering, architecture, transport, and financial services experts that are part of the Group.
Mr Simpson described the study as a robust and compelling argument, and an ideal starting point for further analysis as the Government starts to assess new harbour crossing options more seriously.
“A more far-reaching study will clearly be required once the process moves ahead”, said Mr Simpson. “But what this study confirms is that a new bridge must be on the table, and must be given equal consideration.”
The study was tabled at a NZTA board meeting on 27 November.
Mr Simpson reiterated that the Group now looks forward to working constructively with the Government and NZTA as they move towards further decisions.
