Year of the Tiger at ZooMusic

Auckland City Council

Media release

28 January 2010

Anika Moa and Sola Rosa ring in Year of the Tiger at ZooMusic

Anika Moa and Sola Rosa are teaming up for an unmissable double billing at Wild Bean Cafe ZooMusic on Saturday, 13 February from 6pm.

Singer/songwriter Anika Moa needs little introduction - she was named the Best Female Vocalist at the New Zealand Music Awards (2008) and has gold, platinum and double platinum albums under her belt.

Her honest songs and upbeat stage presence will be complemented by the powerhouse that is Sola Rosa, so expect to hear everything from dub to hip hop, lounge and jazz.

Lisa Crawley will open the three-hour concert with her brand of playful folk pop.

As the Chinese New Year of the Tiger begins, Auckland Zoo’s conservation officer Peter Fraser says that it’s fitting that the concert will raise money to help protect the Sumatran tiger, one of the most critically endangered species in the world.

“The Auckland Zoo Conservation Fund supports 21st Century Tiger’s Kerinci Seblat National Park project in Sumatra. The funds raised go towardtiger protection and conservation units in the park, who help stop poachers and traffickers.

”While helping tigers, the project also protects other species that live in the same environment – rhino, elephant, orangutan, clouded leopard and others. This way our conservation dollars go further,” says Mr Fraser.

Sola Rosa’s Andrew Spraggon is encouraging Aucklanders to come along and enjoy the music while helping the animals.

“Sumatran tigers are extremely endangered with less than 400 in existence today That alone is enough for us to feel humbled in being able to support such a worthy cause,” he says.

A great day and night out – a ZooMusic ticket is also entry to the zoo on concert day so music lovers can come early and explore at their leisure. However, the zoo will be cleared at 5.30pm for set-up.

Wild Bean Cafe ZooMusic 2010 is supported by TV3, The Radio Network, Sunday Star-Times, iSite Media, Montana, DB Breweries and RAW. Tickets are available from Ticketmaster and Auckland Zoo.
