Heritage Fund Applications Now Open
Auckland City Council is inviting applications to the Heritage Fund for cultural or natural heritage projects. This is part of a continued drive to conserve, maintain and enhance natural and cultural heritage within Auckland City.
The Natural Heritage fund provides a grant for ecological conservation projects on private land in the Hauraki Gulf islands and for geological conservation projects on private land throughout Auckland city. Projects can include, but are not limited to, pest control, weed control, native re-vegetation or fencing. Each project must result in a direct benefit to the environment.
The Cultural Heritage fund gives a grant for cultural heritage conservation projects on private land or property throughout Auckland city. Projects can include, but are not limited to, building repair and conservation work, archaeological management plans and conservation plans.
Councillor Aaron Bhatnagar, chairperson of the City Development Committee says, “Auckland’s heritage is extremely important to us and the council recognises that it can be expensive for owners to maintain these properties and land in pristine condition.”
There two funds each with a total of $50,000 available for specific natural or cultural heritage projects. The level of funding granted to applicants will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Application forms and an explanation of the criteria used to assess the applications are online at www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/council/services/grants. Alternatively, applicants can call 09 379 2020 or pick up a form from the service centre at Claris or Ostend on Great Barrier and Waiheke Islands respectively.
Completed applications must be received at Auckland City Council by 5pm, Friday 2 April 2010. They will be considered during a meeting of the City Development Committee on 13 May 2010.
