Expressway Direction

Expressway Direction

The Kapiti Coast District Council passed resolutions today that it intended to work constructively with the New Zealand Transport Authority (NZTA), and would be prepared to enter the Alliance structure proposed to design and build the Sandhills Expressway. This involvement would be dependant on a number of conditions being met. Acceptance of those conditions by Alliance members would be the first test of the Council’s involvement.

Council will be very careful to protect its ability to challenge any aspect of the design in the Board of Enquiry process, should that be necessary.

Council also passed a resolution asking NZTA to provide clarification on the process that they will use related to the expressway through Ōtaki before the Board makes a final decision on the process.

“We are now entering Round Two of the Expressway debate. It is now time to move on and work together. We need to make the very best of a difficult situation and get the very best design outcome we can for our District and local communities” Mayor Rowan said.
