Seats still available for Saturday DC3 scenic flights
ROTORUA 08.03.10: Events & Venues is clarifying that Rotorua residents can still purchase seats on Saturday’s historic DC3 scenic flights over Rotorua.
The Auckland based Fly Dakota Society is offering scenic flights over the city on Saturday morning (March 13), before the aircraft makes an appearance in the afternoon in the Lets Go Rotorua Lakefront Airshow.
Events & Venues general manager Peter McLeod said another organisation had offered scenic flights last weekend while their aircraft was in Rotorua on a North Island charter. He said this had caused some confusion because its timing was close to the city’s airshow.
“However we do want to reassure people that DC3 flights are still on offer for this coming Saturday morning and there are still some seats available for the 10am and 11am departures.
“Tickets have been selling very well which is to be expected after the success of December’s four DC3 flights which fully sold out.
We expect Saturday’s flights to also sell out so we’re suggesting people get their tickets booked promptly if they want to relive a piece of aviation history.
Tickets for the 30 minute DC3 scenic flights cost $100 each and are available from Ticketmaster at the Rotorua Convention Centre, online at www.ticketmaster.co.nz or by phone on 0800 111 999.
Mr McLeod said there had been a lot of interest in the airshow and he expected people to travel to Rotorua from throughout the North Island. He said that in the event of the airshow being postponed on Saturday due to poor weather, the DC3 flights will be rescheduled for Sunday (March 14)
The free Lets Go Rotorua Lakefront airshow will feature 15 flying displays. On-the-ground carnival activities commence at 1pm at the lakefront and the flying displays start at 1.30 pm, running for nearly three hours.
Mr McLeod said the airshow is being staged by Events and Venues Rotorua and the Rotorua District Council and admission is free because of the support of the Daily Post, More FM and the Rotorua Trust.
