Protecting Auckland’s heritage
Four key Auckland heritage building will be protected as Category B listed building after changes made this week.
A plan modification has been approved by the City Development Committee to include four Auckland city heritage buildings in the schedule of the Auckland District Plan 1999 – Isthmus.
The City Development Committee yesterday confirmed it will make a recommendation to Council that the plan change be incorporated into the district plan.
Properties to be added to the schedule
are:
• Carlton Club Hotel (The Penny Black 2006) 489
Khyber Pass Road, Newmarket
• Mary Atkin Cottage, 73
Kohimarama Road
• Mt Eden Borough Council Building and
Fire Station Building (Nesfield House 2006) 62-64 Valley
Road, Mt Eden.
• A house located at 2 Castle Drive,
Epsom
•
“The scheduling of these special heritage
buildings helps us to ensure future generations can enjoy
the rich cultural heritage of Auckland. We take our role in
protecting Auckland’s heritage seriously and these four
properties are fine examples of architecture from our
city’s past,” says Councillor Aaron Bhatnagar,
Chairperson of the City Development Committee.
During the past year, council has ensured the ongoing protection for sites of significance to Auckland’s heritage by scheduling 108 heritage items including 14 built, 94 natural (ecological sites).
