Quax And Ross To Contest Howick
Ward
Local Pakuranga and Howick councillors, Dick Quax and Jami-Lee Ross, have announced they will be standing as candidates for the new Auckland Council in October this year. Mr Quax and Mr Ross will be standing as part of the Citizens & Ratepayers team for this election.
Dick Quax, who ran strong mayoral campaigns under the centre right Peoples Choice banner at the 2004 and 2007 Manukau City Council elections, said that he is excited to be part of the Citizens & Ratepayers Howick team with Jami-Lee Ross.
“The merger of Peoples Choice and Citizens & Ratepayers some months ago means that we now have an exceptional team to contest seats on the Auckland Council in October. Between Jami-Lee and I we have a combined total of nearly fifteen years of local government experience.
“We decided to stand under the Citizens & Ratepayers banner so that we can be as effective as possible when working on behalf of Howick. Being part of a wider team on Council means we will be able to have more influence over civic affairs than any stand-alone independent candidates. This will benefit Howick in the long run.” Jami-Lee Ross, who currently chairs one of two major committees in Manukau City, is relishing the opportunity to be a part of a united Auckland Council.
“The new Auckland Council is going to present significant challenges and opportunities for Auckland. The job of the new council will be to find the right balance between regional progress and the needs of local communities.
“Our first priority will always be representing our local Howick community, but we are also ready for the challenge of moving the City of Auckland forward as a world class, international city,” says Mr Ross Mr Quax and Mr Ross both believe that the vision and aspirations of Citizens & Ratepayers aligns well with the values of residents and ratepayers in the new Howick Ward.
“We believe in the importance of maintaining a strong emphasis on private property rights, the protection and enhancement of our natural environment, and a focus on core council services,” says Mr Quax. “These are important principles that we must stand by”.
“Our community demands that their council keeps rates affordable, invests in vital infrastructure improvements, and maintains ownership of key strategic assets,” says Mr Ross. “Dick and I, together with the Citizens & Ratepayers team, will be focused on these goals if elected to represent Howick in October this year.”
Citizens and Ratepayers will be fielding a full team of candidates for the Howick Local Board to work with Mr Quax and Mr Ross. The announcement of local board candidates will be made in the near future.
