New Rotorua health and wellbeing directory published

ROTORUA 05.05.10: Rotorua District Council (RDC) has published its 2010 Good Health Rotorua directory and is making it freely available from the council website.

The directory includes a comprehensive list of health and wellbeing services in Rotorua district, and can be downloaded from rdc.govt.nz (click ‘Community’ tab, then ‘Directories’).

Good Health Rotorua is updated every year by RDC with assistance from Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) and this year’s publication is the 12th edition.

RDC social research officer Caroline Matangi says both the council and CAB are committed to improving health and social service providers’ information and making it widely available to the community.

“The convenience of having the directory available online enables service providers, health and social work students working, and householders to either print out just the chapters they need, or access the entire document if required.”

CAB coordinator Jane Eynon-Richards says local CAB staff are thrilled to be involved again in the production of the Good Health Directory.

“Our volunteers are asked for information daily about health support groups, counsellors, dentists and GPs, and support for the elderly, parents and children. The Good Health directory is a very up-to-date and accurate source of information and our team members rely on it to assist with these questions.”

Strengthening Families coordinator Wikitoria Hona says the Good Health directory has been her “bible” for the past 10 years.

“My role regularly involves me contacting support agencies within health, education and social services. The Family Violence section in the directory is an excellent idea. It lumps all family violence support into one section, saving time and making it easier to find relevant information.”

A limited number of hard copies are also available from the RDC Customer Centre and the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) for $10 each.
