Concert cancelled

A heavy metal concert booked as a birthday party at the Paekakariki Memorial Hall, has been cancelled by the Kapiti Coast District Council.

The concert to be held this Saturday was billed on the Wellington Gig Guide website as the ‘Heavy Metal Head Banger Festival’ featuring six heavy metal bands.

When the original booking was made for the hall Council were told it was for a 40th birthday party.

When it turned out it was to be a fee charged evening involving six heavy metal bands Council advised the person who made the booking that this was not acceptable and withdrew permission for use of the hall.

The venue is adjacent to residential areas and heavy metal music at volume would give rise to many justified complaints about noise.

Those who made the booking did not declare their intention to hold a paying concert. Had they been upfront they would have been advised the venue is not made available for such events.
