Local Meeting _ Local Issues

“Attended as a ratepayer and Fiji Club of New Zealand (FCNZ) representative at the local issues meeting Wednesday, June 9, that was hosted by North Shore City Councilors Jan O’Conner and Grant Gillon,” said Alton Shameem JP, Community Leader and the President of Fiji Club of New Zealand (FCNZ).

“The meeting was held at Takapuna Bible Chapel Hall from 7pm to 9pm at the corner of Jutland Road and Stone Street, Hauraki, North Shore City, Auckland the City of High Rates, “said Alton Shameem the Chairman of Fiji Club of New Zealand (FCNZ)

“A good turnout of people braved the cool winter evening and enthusiastically ventured to the community local meeting.

The stars dotted the sky and we held our feet on the ground and admired its beauty and enjoyed the night- lights.

Grant Gillon discussed the North Shore City Council’s plans both short and long term and was ably assisted by Jan O’ Conner, “ said Alton Shameem the Founder of Fiji Club of New Zealand (FCNZ).

“Jan & Grant disseminated information regarding, transport, parks, projects selection criteria, representation to the impending Auckland Supercity, Supercity issues, North Shore Holdings Sales, our country’s constitution with regards to local representation, the proposed Takapuna Wharf.

The ratepayers eagerly ask questions and Grant and Jan happily obliged,” said Alton Shameem the Community Leader.

“Says Grant Gillon in reply to a question from the floor, “The social problems should always win with regards to other projects.”

Mr. Gillon asserted that the Auckland Supercity should “Take regional view but focus on local issues.”

For good measure some ratepayers threw in bits of interesting historical stories regarding Hauraki and Takapuna localities.

After the successful meeting we had had hot drinks and light supper, engaged and touched base with the participants, “said Alton Shameem the Leader of Fiji Club of New Zealand (FCZN).
