Schools Supporting Mission To Fill Foodbank

Auckland Schools and Urgent Couriers are teaming up to help the Auckland City Mission ease the cold and hunger for Aucklanders who are struggling this winter.

30 schools are participating in this year's Orange Day Appeal which encourages students to collect and donate food, warm clothing and bedding.

City Missioner, Diane Robertson says, "With winter arriving, the demand for emergency food parcels rises dramatically. The Mission's food stocks are low and more supplies are needed to get us through the next few months. Orange Day traditionally provides a great boost to our supplies at a difficult time of year."

Urgent Couriers will pick-up donations free of charge - saving the Mission any additional transport costs. Mission staff will re-distribute the donations to Aucklanders struggling over the winter months.

Orange Day runs from the 21st June to 4th July 2010 and launches the Mission's annual Winter Appeal.
