Heritage fund applications open for 2010/11
Every year Auckland City Council awards
$100,000 to heritage projects around Auckland. Applications
for the Natural Heritage fund and Cultural Heritage fund are
now open for 2010/2011, with each fund awarding $50,000 to
worthwhile projects.
The Natural Heritage fund gives a grant for projects on ecological land in the Hauraki Gulf islands or geological conservation projects on private land. Projects should directly improve the environment, and can include weed and pest control, native re-vegetation or fencing.
Councillor Aaron Bhatnagar, chairperson of the City Development Committee says, “Auckland’s heritage is extremely important to us and the council recognises that it can be expensive for owners to maintain these properties in pristine condition.”
The Cultural Heritage fund gives a grant for cultural heritage conservation projects on private land or property throughout Auckland city. Past projects have included building repair and conservation work, archaeological management plans and conservation plans.
The 2010/2011 heritage fund has been brought forward due to the transition into a new Auckland Council.
