Councillor Paul Walbran acting ARC Chairman

Councillor Paul Walbran acting ARC Chairman

- Westie to run the region

1 July 2010

Councillor Paul Walbran has been appointed as acting Chair of the Auckland Regional Council (ARC) from 8 July to 20 July 2010.

Cr Walbran takes up this role while Chairman Mike Lee is overseas on private leave and Deputy Chair Michael Barnett is on extended sick leave.

ARC Chairman said – “after consultation with my deputy Michael Barnett who is currently undergoing treatment for cancer, I have recommended to the Council that due to the unusual circumstances, Paul Walbran should be appointed acting chairman of the ARC while I am out of the country between 8 and 20 July.”

“Paul Walbran is no stranger to the role. Paul was deputy chairman of the ARC under the late Phil Warren from 1992 to 1995.”

Cr Walbran is the Chair of the Regional Strategy and Planning Committee and, along with Cr Sandra Coney, the ARC representative for Waitakere.

Cr Walbran is also a director of Auckland Regional Holdings and Sea + City Projects Ltd – the ARC-owned waterfront development agency.

“Admittedly Paul Walbran is already a very busy man – but there is a saying, ‘if you want the job done - give it to a busy man’, said Mr Lee.

“The Council has full confidence in Paul.”
