Have your say on the proposed Tepid Baths design

Have your say on the proposed Tepid Baths design

Draft designs for the redevelopment of the Tepid Baths are now available for public feedback.

After reviewing design options, the council has approved $15.8 million to address structural issues and upgrade the facility to improve the overall customer experience.

This is $3.2 million more than initially budgeted for the project, however it delivers a better outcome for the public.

Chairperson of the Arts, Culture and Recreation Committee, Councillor Greg Moyle says, “Our priority is to address the immediate safety risk but we also have an opportunity to upgrade the facility for users as well.”

“We believe this is the best option as it balances the needs of users, is sensitive to heritage considerations and ensures that the Tepid Baths will continue to be enjoyed by Aucklanders and visitors alike for another 100 years.”

The redevelopment includes the replacement of the steel roof framework, concrete in the pools, columns and beams.

It will also see modification to the internal layout, an upgrade of the changing rooms, improvements to the fitness space and the installation of new water treatment equipment.

Details of the proposed designs are available on www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/tepidbaths and the public can submit their feedback online until 30 July 2010. Hard copy forms are also available at Central City Library in Lorne Street and the Civic Administration Building in Greys Avenue.

Public feedback will be incorporated into the final designs, which will be presented to the Arts, Recreation and Culture Committee in September 2010.

The public feedback period on the design is taking place in tandem with the tender process for the project.

Construction is expected to begin in October 2010 and the facility is expected to reopen in 2012.
