Free puppet show for school showing most Ruru wisdom
ROTORUA 21.07.10: Local schools with ‘Ruru awareness’ could be treated to a free puppet show as part of the district’s latest ‘Back to School’ road safety campaign.
Rotorua District Council road safety coordinator Jodie Lawson says Chloe Emirali from radio station Classis Hits will be visiting local schools during the first week of Term 4 (19 – 23 July), searching for the school with the greatest knowledge of Ruru.
“Chloe will be asking children and parents if they know what Ruru’s job is – which is of course to warn, protect and advise of danger on the roads.
“The school with the best knowledge of Ruru will receive a free puppet show from Puppet Vision, which features Ruru and promotes road safety strategies for children.”
Ruru the morepork first made his appearance with road safety messages on State Highway 5 billboards before making his way into the city urging local motorists to reduce speed, followed by over 30 billboards going up around local schools this week.
Ms Lawson says road safety is everyone’s responsibility and the campaign is designed to support the ongoing battle to slow drivers down outside school gates.
