One person starts queue for new iPad - 48 hours out

Twenty-year-old Aucklander Marty Hehewerth has this morning set up camp in Newmarket outside MagnumMac in the hope that the store is one of Apple's chosen stockists of the new iPad to be officially released in New Zealand on Friday morning.

"We're committed to looking after Marty between now and Friday morning. He's brought plenty of clothes, blankets, food, and a camp stretcher. Newmarket Security is keeping an eye on him as are our CCTV operators. We just hope he gets his iPad on Friday morning," says Cameron Brewer, chief executive of the Newmarket Business Association.

"We're keeping in touch with him via www.twitter.com/internmarty and we encourage others to tweet him to keep his spirits up. He's a great young guy who's recently graduated from the Christchurch Broadcasting School, and now works for The Edge radio station. However this is no radio promo, he's just desperate to buy the first officially released iPad in New Zealand.

"I've taken him down a nice big hot cup of coffee and we wish him every success. The people at Newmarket's MagnumMac, 123 Broadway, are enjoying his company, and hope he's not disappointed. MagnamMac won't know if they'll even be a stockist until Friday morning. Apple are running this with military precision and military-like security. We're thrilled Newmarket's part of the anticipation," says Cameron Brewer.
