Robots rescue donations for families in need

Robots wielding flames, steamers and hot water blasters feature on a new website to help low income families struggling with winter conditions.

The Auckland City Mission and ASB have teamed up to create a live streaming event on www.icemission.co.nz, featuring text activated robots freeing $40,000 donated by ASB from four safes encased in a mammoth block of ice.

ASB and the Mission are calling for text donations, each of which will fire up one of three robots to attack and melt the ice by shooting flames, blasting steam or spraying hot water.

By sending a $3 text with the word ‘WATER’, ‘FIRE’ or ‘STEAM’ together with your initials to 305 a robot will spring into action and your initials will flash up on-screen.

ASB Chief Community Partnership Officer, Linley Wood, says the event is also a great way to help raise awareness for the ‘Can it for the Mission’ winter campaign, which is supported by ASB.

“Winter is a tough time for many of our families and every donated can helps make a difference,” says Linley Wood.

Donation boxes are available in all greater Auckland area ASB branches for canned and non-perishable goods.
