Tweet The Tower!

MEDIA RELEASE
12 August 2010

Tweet The Tower! @Skycityl to celebrate the thirteenth birthday of Sky Tower!

‘Tweeters’ last night took vantage points all over the city for their look at the first ever ‘Tweet the Tower’. For the first time ever, SKYCITY handed over control of the Sky Tower lights to followers of @SKYCITYakl on Twitter from 7.30 – 8.30pm to celebrate the thirteenth birthday of the Sky Tower.

Mark Sainsbury, of TVNZ’s Close Up programme was the first to have a go as he ‘tweeted’ the tower in the closing minutes of the show at 7.30pm with his request for red. His request and instant change were the first of hundreds of tweets over the hour activating instant colour changes including some impressive combination effects such as a giant traffic light.

‘Tweeters’ will have another chance tonight and tomorrow night to ‘Tweet the Tower’ in real time from 7pm – 8pm. The most popular colour over the three nights will remain to light the tower over the weekend.

Sign up for a Twitter account at www.twitter.com and follow SKYCITYakl and get tweeting.

Technology installed in the tower last year means instant control of the top of the Sky Tower lights from the touch of a button – all controlled remotely from a laptop.
