Open day to celebrate Eastbourne bus barn
revamp
The public are invited to an open day at the newly refurbished historic Korohiwa bus barn in Eastbourne on Saturday 4 September from 11am to 1pm.
Mayor David Ogden and Eastbourne Community Board chairman Ian Young are looking forward to the event.
"The bus barn is an important part of Eastbourne and Hutt City’s heritage so it’s great to offer the public an opportunity to come along and see the work that has gone into protecting this historic building.”
The refurbishment took seven months to complete and will cost significantly less than the $2.2m council budgeted for the project.
It has included repainting and restoring the building to its original condition, earthquake strengthening work and replacing the roof.
There will be a short ribbon cutting ceremony to officially re-open the Historic Places Trust category 2-listed building before the doors open to the public at 11am.
Hutt Valley Flyer buses will use the bus barn under a lease arrangement with NZ Bus. The building also features three residential flats which are available to rent.
