Auckland Council nominations

Auckland Council nominations

More than 500 nominations for the new Auckland Council have been received, more than were expected.

Nominations closed today at midday.

In total, 542 nominations were received for 170 vacancies – 23 mayoral candidates, 100 council candidates and 419 local board candidates.

A full list of the candidates is attached, and will also be available on the Auckland Council website, aucklandcouncil.govt.nz.

In the Auckland Council, there will be 20 councillors representing 13 wards, and 149 local board members representing 21 local board areas.

“There is no precedent for this election, we can’t compare it to previous years,” says Auckland Council Electoral Officer Dale Ofsoske. “But these numbers are greater than we expected. It’s great to see the number of Aucklanders keen to be directly involved with the running of their city.”

Local government elections are held by postal vote. Voting packs will be sent out in mid-September. These will contain voting documents, information about candidates, and orange envelopes to send votes back in.
