3 News Provides Comprehensive Earthquake Coverage
3 News has been providing comprehensive coverage of the earthquake in Christchurch to New Zealand and worldwide television audiences.
TV3 started regular news updates early this morning with the breaking news and has constantly updated audiences on the hour throughout the day.
To enhance our coverage for viewers, additional technical and reporting staff were helicoptered into Christchurch this morning, meaning 3 News has the strongest live broadcast capability in the South Island.
Tonight, 3 News will be a 90-minute special covering all aspects of the disaster, with journalist Mike McRoberts reporting and presenting live from Christchurch.
3 News has also been providing coverage to Sky News Australia, Channel 7 Australia, CBS in the United States and news services Reuters and APTN.
“In a situation like this we have global responsibilities, as well as our commitment to keep New Zealanders fully informed,” said TV3 Director of News and Current Affairs, Mark Jennings.
TV3’s current affairs show The Nation at 11am this morning became a one-hour live earthquake special, and included the first television interview with Prime Minister John Key. Tomorrow (Sunday) The Nation will screen as a two-hour live special from 8am, hosted by Sean Plunket, with John Campbell reporting on the latest developments.
As well, 3 News will be providing full coverage of the fatal plane crash at Fox Glacier today.
MediaWorks station Radio Live has also been providing live and comprehensive coverage of today’s developments to radio audiences nationwide.
“We are committed to remaining across these stories, keeping our local and international audiences fully appraised of the response and recovery developments in the days and weeks ahead,” said Mr Jennings.
