Council welcomes Arena announcement

Auckland City Council has welcomed changes in the management of the city's 12,000 seat Vector Arena, a public private partnership.

The changes come three and half years after the opening of the $80 million world class venue as a BOOT (Build Own Operate Transfer) project in conjunction with the original Vector Arena management company, QPAM.

Deputy Mayor David Hay says the BOOT concept has worked well for Auckland City and has protected the council from operational risk. "The private sector is better in this kind of endeavour than local government and we are pleased that this approach will continue," says Mr Hay.

"The sale puts the business on a firm footing for the future," he says. "We're pleased to see New Zealand residents now managing the venue." He also paid tribute to original management company for what it has achieved.

The development of Vector Arena was a key action from Auckland City's CBD Into the Future strategy - a 10-year action plan to transform Auckland's CBD into one of the world's most vibrant and dynamic business and cultural centres.

It also links with Auckland City's events strategy, as a significant venue with the capacity, facilities and operational flexibility to support large community events, international sports and entertainment events.
