Think green for great night out with TV star

Green fingered gardening goddesses, it’s time to prepare for a great night out!

Hawke’s Bay’s keen gardeners can look forward to picking up great tips, free gifts and big prizes at an entertaining social event presented by Farmlands next month. Television gardening guru Tony Murrell will speak at ‘GreenFingers’ – a fun, informative ‘ladies night’ to be held Tuesday, 5 October at the Hawke’s Bay Opera House, starting at 6.30pm.

Nationally recognised and respected for his landscape designs on TV One’s Mucking In and his show on RadioLIVE, Tony Murrell is the author of Garden Designs to Enhance Your Life. With more than 25 years of gardening expertise, Mr Murrell says his interest in all things green has become a lifelong obsession.

“It is my real passion for all things gardening that fuels my enthusiasm for what started out as a hobby and has now become my life.”

At the ‘GreenFingers’ event Tony Murrell will dish out wheelbarrow loads of seasonal advice for the garden as well as spending time chatting to attendees and answering questions. There are prizes and giveaways for everyone, with proceeds to be used for planting trees at rural schools, an initiative of Rural Women New Zealand – an organisation with an impressive history of making a real difference in rural communities.

There will be complimentary wine, coffee, tea and nibbles plus a goodie bag packed with treats and attendees will be in to win great spot prizes, including a pamper package valued at $250!

The evening will provide a great opportunity to do some Christmas shopping for green-fingered friends and family in a relaxed and enjoyable environment, with at least 15 stalls offering exclusive deals and giveaways at the event.

The Hastings ‘GreenFingers’ evening is one of a series being held over the month around the North Island, with a goal of raising $10,000 for rural schools. Along with Farmlands, the principal event sponsors are Meridian, FMG and Telecom.

Farmlands is the North Island’s only rural retail cooperative wholly owned by its customers. It offers shareholders discounts on its products and services as well as on everyday purchases such as groceries and fuel, and preferential rates on farm services such as power and telecommunications.

Tickets are $30 for Farmlands shareholders, but anyone is welcome to attend for the general admission price of $35. Tickets are available from Farmlands stores in Hastings, Waipukurau and Napier. Be quick, as there are limited tickets available!
