Calling all leapfroggers
An exciting Guinness World Record attempt at Leap Frog will take place during this year’s Canterbury A&P Show. The attempt will be held at Canterbury Agricultural Park in the main arena at 12.45pm on Thursday 11 November.
The current world record for the greatest number of people leapfrogging at a single venue is held by Singapore with 1300 people jumping simultaneously.
Leapfrogging is a children's game in which each player in turn leaps over the others' bent backs, leaning on them with their hands and spreading the legs wide.
With the help of year 4, 5 and 6 students from around Christchurch, the Canterbury A&P Show is planning on having over 2000 participants break the record under the watchful eye of Show visitors and Guinness World Record Representative Chris Sheedy. Chris will be familiar to Kiwi audiences having been the Guinness Representative on the TVNZ show ‘NZ Smashes Guinness World Records’.
“This will be no easy task. Guinness has set very specific rules which we are required to follow in order to qualify for the record. It will be serious business for Christchurch kids as them attempt to break the record” commented Show Event Director Rae Finlay.
“At this stage what we are looking for is 2000 kids”, added Finlay. Schools, sporting and community groups from the Canterbury area are encouraged to register their students to participate in the attempt. Registration information is available by contacting the Show Office on 03 343 2867.
The Canterbury A&P Show runs from 10-12 November at Canterbury Agricultural Park Christchurch. Attracting on average 110,000 people, over 7000 livestock and feature competition entries and 600 trade exhibitors, plus three full days of entertainment, it is the largest Agricultural and Pastoral Show in the country.
