“ Our very own thoroughbred and an illustrious Governor-General His Excellency the Rt. Honorable Sir Anand Satyanand opened the Diwali the Festival Light and the Indian New Year on Saturday, October 30, at the Aotea Center, together with Lady Susan Satyanand”, said Alton Shameem JP the New Zealander- Fijian Community Leader, Founder, Chairman and President of Fiji Club of New Zealand (FCNZ), Young Executive Club (YEC), All Ethnic Congress (AEC) and the New Zealand Association of Certified Public Accountants (NZACPA) at Takapuna, North shore City, Auckland the City of Lights and Festivals.
“Auckland City was a sea of
people from different ethnic groups mingling, engaging,
enjoying the colorful festival and indulging in Indian food,
snacks, sweets and soaking in the sunny day watching the
performers. The energized and enthusiastic crowd were
singing and dancing away to the tantalizing beat of the
singers and dancers. A singer was also reciting some
romantic poems much to the delight of the people.
The Governor-General and Lady Susan Satyanand graced
the various stalls both in the Aotea Center and at the civic
building The Edge and engaged with the people, and His
Excellency bought a cup of Indian Masala tea at the stall”
said Alton Shameem JP the Civic, International and National
Leader, Founder, Chairman and President of Fiji Club of New
Zealand (FCNZ), Young Executive Club (YEC), All Ethnic
Congress (AEC) and the New Zealand Association of Certified
Public Accountants (NZACPA).
“Also in
attendance was the Minister of Ethnic Affairs Pansy Wong and
National Party member of parliament Jackie Blue, and we also
had masala tea with them and engaged with one another. We
discussed Diwali, the saving of our most beloved Hobbits,
the economy and the film industry by our Prime Minister
Honorable John Key and his government, thereby bringing
certainty to the multimillion dollar film industry in this
global recessionary times, and thus saving many thousands of
job and the rural Matamata Town where the Hobbit is being
filmed” said Alton Shameem JP the New Zealander-
Indigenous Fijian Civic Leader, Founder, Chairman and
President of Fiji Club of New Zealand (FCNZ), Young
Executive Club (YEC), All Ethnic Congress (AEC) and the New
Zealand Association of Certified Public Accountants
(NZACPA).
“Our New Zealander-Indigenous
Fijian Committee Member Pratima Nand QSM, JP the recipient
of Kiwi Bank Local Hero Award 2010 and our industrious team
managed our very busy and sort after stall on Queen Street
opposite the Old Town Hall, as our stall was the most
popular and decorated one. The stall had mouth-watering
food, snacks and drinks and the people were queuing like
moths to the flames to buy the goodies and delights and we
eventually run out of food.
The pulsating
and throbbing music was heard all over Auckland City during
the Diwali Celebrations on Saturday and Sunday bringing
people both young and old, and the tourists together and
savoring the joy and excitement of Diwali, said Alton
Shameem JP the Multicultural Leader, Founder, Chairman and
President of Fiji Club of New Zealand (FCNZ), Young
Executive Club (YEC), All Ethnic Congress (AEC) and the New
Zealand Association of Certified Public Accountants
(NZACPA).
“The Diwali In the City Celebrations
concluded with the grand display of colorful and spectacular
fireworks on
Sunday, and the people dispersed with
happiness, joy, enlightened, rejuvenated, sanguine and
looking forward to the new Indian New Year, and moving our
great country New Zealand forward for the benefit of all.”
