Rotorua to host
Warriors vs Parramatta Eels clash in
February
ROTORUA: 10.11.10:
Rotorua rugby
league fans are in for another opportunity to watch some
of Australasia’s best rugby league players in action when
the Vodaphone Warriors meet the Parramatta Eels head-on in
Rotorua in the New Year.
Rotorua International Stadium has been selected as the venue for the teams' pre-season clash on Saturday 12 February.
Parramatta will be looking to avenge the loss they suffered at the hands of the Warriors in this season’s final match, while the Warriors will be looking to repeat their success from last time they played in Rotorua when they successfully dealt to the Sydney Roosters.
Events & Venues Rotorua general manager Peter McLeod said there was sure to be a lot of public and media interest in Kiwis’ coach Stephen Kearney who will be fielding his first NRL selection since being appointed as Parramatta coach.
“You can expect some extra tension in the match as the Warriors have recently signed Parramatta players Felito Matoa and Krisnan Inu to join the New Zealand club for the 2011 season.”
The new Parramatta squad includes one of the games genuine world superstars in Kangaroo Jarryd Haynes, plus fellow Kangaroo Nathan Hindmarsh, dual Wallaby and Kangaroo Timana Tahu, and Kiwi prop Fuifui Moimoi. Both Haynes and Moimoi missed the recent Four Nations tournament due to injury.
Parramatta also has the services of State of Origin stars Justin Poore and Tim Hannah, as well as New Zealand Maori rep Justin Horo, son of former Kiwi legend Mark Horo. The Eels have also signed State of Origin player Carl Webb from the North Queensland Cowboys for the new season.
Local fans will get a double dose of top rugby league for their money with the current Toyota Cup premiership champions - the ‘Junior’ Warriors - in action against a yet to be named opposition in the curtain raiser for the main match.
Mr McLeod said Rotorua District Council would be holding ticket prices to the same level as the last Warriors' match in Rotorua, despite the recent GST hike and other cost increases.
“We’re offering $5 off the price of all adult tickets purchased before match day, so fans should get in early to take advantage of the deals on offer.”
General admission tickets purchased in advance are just $15 for adults and $5 for children, or in the grandstand $20 for adults and $10 for children.
Family concession tickets (2 adults + 2 children) are also available for $35 general admission and $50 in the grandstand, if purchased ahead of match day. Pre-purchase concession tickets represent savings of $35 and $25 on match day individual ticket prices.
All tickets go on sale in December at Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.ticketmaster.co.nz or by phone on 0800 111 999
The Vodaphone Warriors vs Parramatta Eels match kicks of at 5pm on Saturday 12 February at Rotorua International Stadium, with the Junior Warriors’ curtain raiser starting at 3pm.
