Free buses break records – again

Free buses break records – again

For immediate release: Thursday 18 November 2010

Passenger records continue to break as more than 7000 people took up the opportunity to travel on Tauranga’s Bayhopper buses for free last Saturday.

Bay of Plenty Regional Council Transport Policy Manager Garry Maloney said the free Saturdays in November promotion continues to be hugely successful, with 7100 people taking the bus on Saturday 13 November.

This is 2000 more than the previous Saturday when 5000 people took the opportunity to ride the bus for free.

“It’s really great to see people using our passenger network to get into and out of the city,” Mr Maloney said. “We’ve also had some positive feedback from shoppers on just how easy it was to get to where they wanted to go, and on the way home could just relax on the bus and enjoy the sights.”

The no-fare Saturday promotion continues until the end of November.
