Musicians answer call of the wild for Zoo Music

Wild Bean Cafe Zoo Music returns to the Auckland Zoo Band Rotunda in the new year with five sensational concerts for conservation to liven up your summer.

2011 marks Auckland Zoo’s eighth Zoo Music series, which showcases the best Kiwi musical talent on offer at one of Auckland’s most unique venues.

Opening the series is national treasure Dave Dobbyn on 21 January, followed by the incredible Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra on 4 February.

Che Fu and The Kratez make a return to the Zoo on 12 February, before 2010 crowd favourites Sola Rosa heat up the stage on 26 February.

Closing out the series on 4 March will be a not-to-be-missed double billing of hugely talented and popular acts, The Phoenix Foundation and Liam Finn.

Each concert will feature top support acts, and revenue from the series will go back into supporting the Zoo’s conservation work, both on-site and out in the field – here in New Zealand and overseas.

“Whether it’s the work we do here at the Zoo, having our staff assist with radio tracking kokako in the Waitakeres, or giving both practical and financial support to help release rehabilitated orangutans back into protected areas in the wild, Auckland Zoo is dedicated to the care and conservation of wildlife.

“The money raised from these concerts for conservation will go a long way to helping us deliver on our commitment to giving wildlife a future,” says the Zoo’s conservation officer Peter Fraser.

Zoo Music sponsors, Wild Bean Cafe, return for a fifth season and continue their support for the series with sustainability and conservation efforts. Wild Bean Cafe Marketing Specialist David Pomare says he and his team are thrilled to be part of great events that help to make a difference.

“Although Zoo Music concerts are so much fun, it’s great to know that just by turning up and enjoying a concert, you are directly helping wildlife,” says Mr Pomare.

A great day and night out – a Zoo Music ticket is also entry to the Zoo on concert day, so music lovers can come early and re-connect with the Zoo at their leisure.

Wild Bean Cafe Zoo Music 2011 is also supported by The Radio Network, iSite Media, Brancott Estate and DB Breweries. Tickets are available from Ticketek.
