Seriously injured motorcyclist transported from Kapiti
The Wellington-based Westpac Rescue Helicopter transported a seriously injured motorcyclist after an accident in Otaihanga late this afternoon.
The helicopter, with two Wellington Free Ambulance (WFA) paramedics and a WFA doctor arrived at the scene on Otaihanga Road just after 4pm. Details were a bit sketchy at the scene but we know that at least one motorbike and two cars were involved in the accident.
On our arrival WFA paramedics and the Kapiti Coast EMS team were treating a 38 year old Paraparaumu man who had been riding a motorbike and ended up colliding with other vehicles. Police at the scene were working to piece together the events which led to the accident.
"By chance we had some training occurring at base so we were able to respond with two paramedics and a doctor" says Dave Greenberg, Westpac Rescue Helicopter crewman.
The man is suffering from multiple injuries including serious leg injuries.
He was flown to Wellington Hospital and is currently being treated and assessed in the Emergency Department
