Road safety ambassadors promoting responsible drinking
ROTORUA 09.12.10
Rotorua District Council’s (RDC) road safety ambassadors will be out in force next week encouraging the community to celebrate the festive season responsibly.
The road safety ambassador roles are filled by students employed by the council to get out in the CBD with their thought provoking ‘Grim friends,’ handing out chocolates and a quiz with a $100 petrol voucher up for grabs, while promoting safety messages.
People completing quiz sheets can submit them at City Focus or hand them to the road safety ambassadors.
RDC road safety coordinator Jodie Lawson says most people tend to socialise more over the Christmas period and in the summer weather, and we certainly want everyone to enjoy this special time of year.
“Our ambassadors will be promoting responsible behaviour around alcohol this season, such as organising sober rides home after celebrating, not pushing the issue if someone declines a drink, and never drinking and driving – it’s just not worth the risk.”
Ms Lawson says the campaign also supports the Ruru Reward Scheme which offers safe drivers the chance to win prizes each month.
“As well as chocolates and quizzes, our road safety ambassadors will be handing out flyers with a simple question on them. Completed entries can be posted to the council and each entry goes in the December reward draw for a fantastic prize sponsored by Skyline Rotorua.”
