Mayor to hold eleventh hour talks
The Mayor is to hold eleventh hour talks on threatened buildings in St Heliers.
It comes after he ordered council officers to reconsider the issue at a meeting of the Auckland Council today.
The officers investigated the option of placing a heritage order on the Turua St buildings.
The advice was that there was no guarantee the heritage order would be successful, that it could be very costly and that the council may end up having to buy the buildings.
The Mayor fears this could have consequences for the council across Auckland.
Len Brown also expressed the concern that the council will face issues like this for the next three years.
