Support offered to Queensland
Chairman of Horizons Regional Council, Murray Guy, has sent a message of sympathy and support to those affected by the flooding in Queensland.
Mr Guy has written to his Australian counterparts, offering the council’s support to the flood ravaged State.
“The Manawatu-Wanganui region is no stranger to flooding and the devastation of the 2004 flooding is still fresh in many people’s minds,” said Mr Guy.
“My thoughts are with those affected by the Queensland flooding. The 2004 floods caused much damage to our region but we were fortunate no lives were lost. I can only express my deepest sorrow and condolences to those who have lost loved ones in Queensland.
“I will be calling our councillors together to discuss what our council can do to support our Australian colleagues in their response and recovery efforts. We will endeavour to help in any way we can.”
Mr Guy’s comments come after two members of the region’s civil defence team have joined a 15 strong New Zealand contingent who have travelled to Queensland to aid in the response.
