Round-the-world walker set to complete NZ leg of his walk
Canadian, Jean Béliveau will arrive at Cape Reinga on Friday 21 January, successfully completing his three month journey through New Zealand.
Jean left his home 10 years ago to walk around the world in support of the UNESCO international decade (2001-2010) for peace and non-violence for children. (Editors: see bio notes below)
Barnardos Chief Executive, Murray Edridge, said, “Jean is undertaking a phenomenal feat to promote peace for children. It has been an honour for Barnardos to be able to support his walk through New Zealand and to benefit from the donations he has collected on his travels.
“During his walk, Jean has inspired many people through his speeches and presentations. His epic journey around the world is similar to the journey New Zealanders are on to ensure we create a safer, more peaceful life for New Zealand children. Barnardos extends its very best wishes to Jean as he prepares to finally return to his home country to complete his eleven year walk.”
New Zealand is Jean’s 63rd country, and the last country before he returns to Canada to walk from Vancouver to his home in Montreal. In total, he will walk an incredible 75,000kms and he is crossing 64 countries.
Jean Beliveau is available for interview at the conclusion of his walk or on his return to Auckland on Friday 28 January.
