Toyota warns of potential text message scam
Toyota New Zealand has received inquiries from concerned members of the public about text messages being sent widely to mobile phones in New Zealand which claim the owner has won cash and a new Toyota car.
Paul Carroll, General Manager of After Sales for Toyota New Zealand, says: “The texts may be a scam. Neither Toyota Motor Corporation, nor any of its affiliates sent the texts.”
Mr Carroll says Toyota’s Customer Dialogue Centre and dealerships have received more than 200 calls from the public about the texts.
“Toyota New Zealand has alerted the relevant authorities about the texts, and clarified its lack of involvement.”
