Firefighters have responded to more 200 weather events

Firefighters have responded to more 200 weather related events since 6pm last night.

Incidents have occurred right throughout the Northern Region. Worst hit areas have been Kawakawa, Kaeo and the Whangarei District.

Meanwhile, Auckland Firefighters have responded to more than 100 flooding related emergencies.

As at 5am, more than 400 emergency 111 calls have been answered since 6pm last night.

Incidents that are developing

In Pipiwai, firefighters are using a boat in an attempt to rescue 2 people stuck up a trees due to flood water. The pair have now been stuck for more than 3 hours. Members of the public have attempted to swim out to the pair, but the current was too strong. We understand a male and female are trapped up different trees.

A house has collapsed down a cliff onto a beach near Onetangi, Waiheke Island. Currently 2 occupants are unaccounted for Firefighters have just arrived on the scene.

Firefighters are responding to a car that has gone into a river in Wilson Road, Parakao. We have not yet arrived on scene.

· In Whakapara a car became stuck in flood water. The 3 adults and 1 child roped themselves together and were rescued by firefighters.

· In Stanmore Bay a landslide has crashed into a house.

· On State Highway 1 Okaihau, two people become completely trapped and surrounded by water. As floodwaters rose, they held on to logs for flotation. Water quickly rose above their heads. Firefighters used a dinghy to rescue the pair.

· Occupants of 8 units at the Beachhaven Motel and Holiday Park, Waihi Beach have been evacuated.

· 2 houses in Riverside, Whangarei have been evacuated after a landslide threatened houses.

· In Kaeo, 111 communications centre staff have been in constant contact with a family trapped in their house. 4 people (2 adults and 2 children) became trapped in flood waters. Water rose to above 8 feet to the level of the houses veranda. The back of the house started to slide away as waters eroded a bank. The Fire Service Communicator got the occupant to use a lit candle to signal rescuers. Firefighters in a rescue boat went along Dip Road in search of the light and eventually rescued the family.
