Tea with John Key, or Dan Carter’s signed boots – big ticket items in Pike River dinner event

Afternoon tea with Prime Minister or Dan Carter’s signed rugby boot are just two of a host of auctions at possibly the biggest charity-fund-raiser for the Pike River will be held in Christchurch next week,.

The gala charity dinner function is being put on by some of New Zealand’s leading chefs and personalities at the Grand Chancellor on February 11. The proceeds go to the Pike River Miners Relief Fund.

TV One Good Morning hosts Brendon Pongia and Sarah Bradley along with Christchurch and Wellington chefs Gary Miller and Adam Newell are co-ordinating and organising this event.

Pongia who hails from Greymouth said he wanted to do something for his home town. Participating chefs include Adam Newell and Martin Bosley from Wellington, Cameron Lawless and Glen Rockhouse from Auckland, Jonny Schwass, Darren Wright, Tony Smith and Andrew Brown from Christchurch and Steven Le Corre from Timaru.

Other items to be auctioned include Canterbury & All Black memorabilia donated by Justin Marshall and Scott Robertson, a poster signed by Debbie Harry (Blondie) and The Pretenders; a cricket coaching session given by Stephen Fleming and Brendon McCullum; a packages weekend for two at the Wearable Art Awards; a Steve Price signed jersey and hosting for four at the Christchurch Anzac rugby league test; and a signed Phoenix jersey and special corporate package to one of their home games.

Among those who will be attending are John Key, Pike River chief Peter Whittall, West Coast policeman Gary Knowles, mayors Bob Parker and Tony Kokshoorn, Fleming and Robertson.
