Birthday First Reaps Rewards For Lotto Winner

While most New Zealanders spend years dreaming of winning the big one – for lucky Auckland player Rohan, the dream of winning a top prize became a reality after his the purchase of his first-ever Lotto ticket. The ticket was purchased on his eighteenth birthday and won him the ‘His and Her Cars’ package (a HSV Clubsport and Volkswagon Eos vehicle) with Lotto’s Holiday 200 promotion.

“I decided to buy the ticket, as I figured that if I was going to get lucky, it would be on my birthday,” says the young winner.

Rohan’s winning ticket was purchased through NZ Lotteries’ online sale channel MyLotto.

After purchasing the ticket in December, Rohan did not check it till late January, after he received a phone call from NZ Lotteries notifying him that he should check his emails and claim his prize.

“I knew I had the ticket, but just never got around to checking it.

“I never thought I would actually win,” says Rohan.

“When we got the call, to say that I had won two cars, my jaw dropped and my eyes were popping out of my head.

“I just jumped around the house and was then yelling and then I told my friends, who all had the same reaction”, laughs the teenage winner.

“This year I’m heading off for my first year of university, so it’s definitely a good start for 2011”, says Rohan.

To celebrate his win Rohan plans on taking his little brother, mum and dad out for dinner.

“Yeah, thought I should,” he laughs.
