Nominations open for
Rotorua District Community Awards
ROTORUA 08.02.11: Rotorua District Council is now taking nominations for the annual Rotorua District Community Awards.
The awards recognise locals who have demonstrated outstanding civic responsibility or community service; made a significant difference to the Rotorua community; or achieved national or international recognition.
Nominations are also being accepted for the awards’ Youth Section for people aged 15 to 25 who have demonstrated similar achievements.
Mayor Kevin Winters says the Rotorua awards, established in 1992, are an opportunity for local people to be acknowledged for their exceptional contributions to the community.
“There are many locals doing great things in our community, or putting Rotorua in the spotlight as a result of their successes outside of the community. We want them to know their efforts are noticed and appreciated.”
Award winners will be selected from nominations received by a panel comprising Mayor Winters and councillors Maxwell, Searancke, Wepa, McVicker and Waaka. Each recipient will be presented with a framed citation and gift from the council at a special community awards function hosted by the mayor in April.
Nominations close 12 noon on Monday 4 April. Nomination forms can be obtained from the Rotorua District Council Customer Centre and on the council website www.rdc.govt.nz under the ‘Community’ tab.
