Tauranga Bay Hopper timetables change this Sunday

Tauranga Bay Hopper timetables change this Sunday

For immediate release: 9 February 2011

Tauranga’s Bay Hopper network timetables are set to change from this Sunday.

Nearly all routes on the city’s Bay Hopper network will have some changes to their timetables and passengers are asked to check their routes by calling 0800 422928 before travelling.

Bay of Plenty Regional Council’s Public Transport Sub-Committee Chair Councillor Doug Owens said the need to adjust the timetables had come from extensive monitoring of the service.

“We carry out monitoring of the routes and have found that some routes have too much time in their timetables,” he said. “This means that the bus drivers found they were getting to points along their routes and having to sit and wait for periods of time before they could leave again.”

He said there were a number of factors in this, with the completed Harbour Link bridge project being the main one.

“It’s great as it means we’re seeing real benefits from the completed project, and it means those using the bus network are getting to their destinations faster,” Councillor Owens said.

“While we don’t like to make changes to the timetables too often, it’s also given us the opportunity to improve the staggering of other services, and in some cases allowing us to provide a more frequent service.”

He said feedback on the Bay Hopper services was always welcome through the main call centre number, 0800 422 928.

“There is information on the timetable changes for the routes on all the Bay Hopper buses, but the easiest way for people to find out about the specific changes was call 0800 422928 or visit www.baybus.co.nz.”
