Have your say on community houses

HUTT CITY COUNCIL NEWS RELEASE

11 FEBRUARY 2011

Have your say on community houses

Lower Hutt has eleven community houses spread across the city which provide access to a range of community and social services, as well as a place for local groups to meet.  The houses are council owned, and the programmes and services they offer are managed by a local committee.

A review is underway to look at the effectiveness of existing services and programmes to ensure the houses, some of which are also known as centres, continue to meet the needs of our communities.

Over the next couple of weeks we are hosting public meetings in different parts of the city and are encouraging people to come along and share their thoughts.

Community partnerships team leader, Utulei Antipas, says it’s important people have a say on the houses as they are key community assets.

“The houses are there for the community’s benefit, so we want to find out what they think so we can agree on priorities that will mean better community outcomes for all.”

As well as the public meetings, written feedback on the review is welcome and can be sent to utulei.antipas@huttcity.govt.nz, or Utulei Antipas, Hutt City Council, Private Bag 31912, Lower Hutt 5040. The deadline for submissions is Friday, 4 March.

The review is expected to be completed by the end of March with recommendations to be considered by Council’s community and infrastructure services committee on 11 April where the public will be able to make oral submissions.
