58% of Kiwis Find Love at Work

58% of Kiwis Find Love at Work

As the roses and chocolates flow into the workplace on Valentine’s Day, results of the latest Watercooler poll on seek.co.nz suggest it is co-workers who may be doing most of the giving.

The poll reveals that 58% of Kiwis have been involved in a workplace romance, with 15% of these going all the way to the altar, 22% reported having had a relationship with someone at work, and the remaining 21% admitted to having had a ‘fling’.

Helen Souness, Senior Executive at SEEK says this is most likely due to the hours people spend at work.

“We tend to average at least half our waking hours at work and it’s an environment where we are likely to meet all kinds of interesting people, with similar interests and experiences. It’s only natural that some of us will meet partners at work.”

For 42% of respondents the temptation has so far been resisted, but for anyone considering a grand gesture in the office this Valentine’s Day, Helen Souness suggests weighing up the professional impact:

“It may just be worth thinking through any potential issues before giving in to temptation!”.”
