American vehicles revved to cruise Nature Coast

Media Release. For Immediate Release. 22 February 2011

American vehicles revved to cruise Nature Coast

Around 300 American vehicles like Dodges, Mustangs, Chevrolets, Pontiacs, and Hotrods will be cruising Kapiti streets on Thursday 24 February. Participants from the New Zealand AmeriCARna event in Lower Hutt - an event that celebrates American cars and culture - will visit the region for a day.

Chris Barber, Chief Executive of Nature Coast Enterprise, says it's a good warm up to the Rugby World Cup period later in the year. "Being friendly hosts encourages visitors to really engage with our region. That could include eating out, staying overnight, or wanting to come back and visit us again."
AmeriCARna visitors will cruise Kapiti streets then visit one of Kapiti's best attractions, Southward Car Museum. Sue Beissel from Southwards says it's a great opportunity to see so many classic American cars at once. "It'll be quite something to see them in the streets, or lined up in our car park - a real treat."

The visiting classics will cruise from State Highway 1 between 11.15am and 11.45am, along Popular Ave, Rosetta Rd, Marine Parade, Manly St, Ngapotiki St, Donovan Rd, Percival Rd, Mazengarb Rd, Ratanui Rd, and Otaihanga Rd to Southward Car Museum.

Members of the public are encouraged to welcome the cars as they drive past.

Gaylene Sanderson, Nature Coast Enterprise's i-SITE and Visitor Information Centre Manager says the extra visitors will potentially also eat, shop, and scope the region for future visits. "We'd love people to get out and wave, and welcome them to our region."

Locals can also view the cars outside Southward Car Museum from approximately 12pm-2pm.
