Horizon Region’s civil defense steps in to support Christchurch
Horizons Regional Council and PNCC have stepped in to support the Christchurch response effort.
At 11am this morning, council staff will be manning the police’s missing persons phone line, taking over from the Red Cross.
Horizons incident controller Craig Grant said that the Council had been on standby overnight ready to assist the response effort.
“We have set up call centres here at Horizons in Palmerston North and at Arena Manawatu, our back up emergency operation centre. There are 30 Horizons staff and 10 from PNCC manning phones and ready to assist the police in their efforts,” said Mr Grant.
Staff will receive calls and send on details to the Wellington police head quarters for the next 24-48 hours. Mr Grant said victim support services are also on hand to help support callers struggling during this stressful time.
